    Hello - sorry to hear about the trouble.  Each lamp requires 3 AAA batteries.  The negative side of each battery should be against the springs in the pack.  When reinstalling the pack, it only goes in one specific way, the metal bar on the pack into the groves (the springs on the pack must be aligned with the metal you see inside the light).  Once it's installed, the cap should be tightened and the black button turns it off and on.  I pulled some from stock to confirm they operate as expected.  If you continue to have trouble please reach out to us directly with your order information.  You may also want to confirm the batteries are good.
